As central meridian or length origin in the will geodesy the reference line of two available modes Cartesian coordinate system refers to that in cartography and geography is used. Either the longitude of a local fundamental point or whole-number longitudes in a defining system such as  GK or  UTM , cf. Examples.

For the central meridian (blue line in the figure), a right value ( false easting ) ≠ 0 is set in the respective coordinate system such that the ordinate with the right value 0 does not mark the central meridian , but lies west of the area shown (green perpendicular). This avoids negative coordinate values ​​west of the central meridian.
