Middle ear implant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A middle ear implant is an implant in the middle ear that is used to improve hearing .

Passive middle ear implant

Artificial ossicle made of titanium or ceramic that is used by the ENT doctor in an operation to improve hearing ( tympanoplasty ) instead of a destroyed ossicle. As an implant material, titanium is extremely reliable biologically within bone tissue ( dental implants ) and soft tissue and, due to its low weight, is able to resonate even at high sound frequencies.

Active middle ear implant

Implantable hearing amplifiers are used to treat certain patients with inner ear hearing loss. With a tiny high-performance vibrator that is implanted in the middle ear, vibrations in the nanometer range are introduced into the ear. This enables certain hearing impaired people to hear again, for which conventional hearing aids cannot help.
