Center of the Saarland
Due to different calculation methods, there are two central points in the Saarland .
Geographic center
The geographic center of the Saarland ( 49 ° 22.6290 ′ north latitude, 6 ° 52.7027 ′ east longitude in the reference system WGS84 ) determined by the State Office for Cadastral, Surveying and Mapping is located in a forest in the Falscheid district , municipality of Lebach ( Saarlouis district ). The center, to which a hiking trail leads, is marked with a boulder and a notice board embedded in it.
Geometric center
The geometric center of the Saarland ( 49 ° 23.0582 'north latitude, 6 ° 57.2200' east longitude ) is located on private property in the Habach district of Eppelborn ( Neunkirchen district ), about 5.5 kilometers east of the geographical center. The location was determined in 2004 by the Land Surveyor's Office by averaging around 9,428 outer points of the Saarland polygon, which is irregular in the geometric sense. An information board is set up 55 meters north of the geometric center at the edge of the forest.
