Middle School (Bavaria)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hauptschulen in Bavaria have been able to call themselves secondary schools since the 2011/2012 school year , provided they meet the following criteria - alone or in association with other schools:

  1. The school offers all-day care.
  2. It allows the students after qualifying High to medium-maturity train (commonly known as M-train , M-branch or M-class ) to visit and the intermediate certificate at the middle school (equivalent to the intermediate school leaving certificate (at a secondary school)) to reach.
  3. From the eighth grade onwards, students have the opportunity to specialize in one of the three branches of technology, business or social affairs. However, this offer depends on the number of students and the teachers available. The network schools work together.

By renaming it to Mittelschule , mostly in connection with the formation of network schools , one of the aims is to prevent the closure of small secondary schools, especially in rural areas.

Until the 1960s, in colloquial language especially among the older generation, right up to the measure described above, today's secondary schools in Bavaria were called secondary schools.
