from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mittelstedten is a desert in the Vordertaunus near Oberstedten and the Niederstedten desert near Oberursel . The place existed until around 1420.

The desert

The oldest surviving mention of Niederstedten comes from 1303. It was last mentioned in 1401 as a market place. The village presumably perished in the city war around 1420.

Today the field names "Mittelstedter Feld", "Mittelstedtergericht" and "Mittelstedter Linde" are reminiscent of the former village . The “Mitelstedter Karte” from 1587 shows two linden trees at this point .

The linden tree in the Mittelstedter Feld is a single 400-year-old former court linden tree with a sweeping, deep crown and a huge trunk. It has been a protected natural monument since 1938 .

As early as 1931 the “Oberurseler Bürgerfreund” wrote about the condition of the linden tree: “Your trunk is rotten and half rotten”. In 1970 the roots of the tree were damaged when telephone cables were laid. Today only the mighty trunk and a few night shoots remain.

The 650 m² area around the linden tree is to be transformed into a work of art under the title "Turn of Time". For this purpose, the city of Oberursel announced an artist competition in 2016. On December 7, 2016, the contribution by the Frankfurt artist team Wolfgang Winter / Berthold Hoerbelt was chosen as the winner. It is an open showcase in the form of an 8 meter high three-dimensional picture frame made of white steel. The artwork was to be realized by late summer 2017. The cost was estimated at around € 60,000. Readings should then take place on site. The final cost was 76,000 euros. The RheinMain regional park contributed 26,000 euros of this, an association 10,000 euros and the regional park umbrella company 40,000 euros. The taxpayers' association criticized these costs in its 2017 Black Book. In 2019 the linden tree fell over.
