Miyuki Miyabe
Miyuki Miyabe ( Japanese 宮 部 み ゆ き , Miyabe Miyuki ; born December 23, 1960 in Kōtō , Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese writer .
Life
Born in Fukagawa , a suburb of Tokyo's Kōtō district , she spent her childhood in Japan's capital. After graduating from Sumidagawa High School, she worked in a law firm. She wrote her first novel when she was twenty-three. In addition, she attended authoring courses with Masao Yamamura , which were offered by the Kodansha publishing house. She made her debut as a writer in 1987 with the short story Warera ga rinjin no hanzai ( 我 ら が 隣人 の 犯罪 ).
In the following years she published numerous novels that were translated into several languages. For Kasha she received the prestigious Yamamoto Shūgorō Prize in 1993 and the Naoki Prize for Riyū ( 理由 ) in 1998 .
Her novels and stories span a wide range of different genres, from young people's books to science fiction and fantasy to crime novels . Miyabe is a member of the Association of "Mystery Writers of Japan" ( 日本 推理 作家協会 , Nihon Suiri Sakka Kyōkai ). Her novel Brave Story was also filmed as an anime.
