The Mjölksten

The Mjölksten ( German  "Milchstein" ) is north of Lövånger , just after the junction from the E 4 , next to the road to Önnesmark , near Skellefteå in Västerbotten County in Sweden .

The milk stone is a large, protected boulder ( Swedish flyttblock ) that has broken into two unequal pieces. It takes its name from the fact that the women of Önnesmark used to stand here to sell milk to the soldiers on the way to the Gumboda Hed military training area.

The practice area was used between 1649 and 1897. The stone used to be called Wolfstein, which indicates that there was a so-called Wolfsgrube , a trap hole for wolves . It is also said that a troll had its place under the stone and that the stone turns when the Lövånger church bells ring.
