The Mobility Academy AG of the TCS , based in Bern , was founded in 2008 by the Swiss Touring Club . It describes itself as a think and do tank and deals with future-oriented, sustainable forms of mobility and creates a space for creative traffic thinking and acting across association boundaries. Jörg Beckmann has been the director and managing director since 2008.

Programs and projects

The company is following three trends in the transport sector - from the decarbonization of motorized individual transport thanks to its electrification, to the deprivatisation of individual mobility tools in the context of the sharing economy and collaborative consumption, to the demotorization of urban transport and a renaissance of the bicycle . The aim of all these programs is to drive forward the sustainable structural change in the mobility sector and to promote the social dialogue on the subject in a publicly effective way. The academy participates in national and international research programs on the topic and mobility development.

history

In 2010, the company founded the “Swiss Electric Mobility Forum” (completed at the end of 2016). The work of the forum was integrated into the activities of the Swiss eMobility industry association and the Mobility Academy has been the office of the Swiss eMobility industry association since 2012 .

Since 2013, with the support of numerous international partners, the company has implemented the World Collaborative Mobility Congress wocomoco.

The company has also been involved in bicycle traffic since 2014 and, in collaboration with the Engagement Migros development fund, launched “carvelo” - the Swiss cargo bike initiative. carvelo2go was originally created as a pilot project as part of this initiative. Various projects are being carried out as part of the carvelo cargo bike initiative, including a. since 2015 the eCargo bike sharing "carvelo2go". While carvelo was primarily about making transport bikes better known in Switzerland and building a competence center, carvelo2go aims to offer a bike rental system that is suitable for everyday use .

In autumn 2015, the world's first sharing platform for electric cargo bikes, carvelo2go, was launched. Since then, the offer has developed continuously. There are now over 300 eCargo bikes in 70 cities and municipalities throughout Switzerland - more are being added at regular intervals (as of October 2019). This makes carvelo2go the largest sharing platform for electric cargo bikes. The founders are the TCS mobility academy and the Engagement Migros development fund, supported by EnergieSchweiz . The cooperation with Engagement Migros expired in December 2019 as agreed.

Since October 2016, the TCS subsidiary has also been managing the auto-mat.ch portal, which is based on an initiative by the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) and the Touring Club Switzerland . The aim of this web portal is to collect and convey national and international knowledge about automated driving. As part of this portal, "Automaticar" took place, an event dedicated to regulatory, social, technical and economic issues relating to the market launch of self-driving vehicles in Switzerland.

In October 2018, the Mobility Academy created the Swiss Mobility Arena, a five-day event that unites the three congresses "Electromobility", "AUTOMATICAR" and wocomoco under one roof.
