Otto Dienelt, then head of the MDR business editorial team, initiated the production of the Program revived a program from GDR television that was popular with viewers. Since then, “Mode mal Ehrlich” has been a regular guest at the haute couture fashion shows in Paris . history

There have been fashion shows with Klaus Ehrlich on GDR television since 1971, initially under the title "Mode '71". This was followed by one program per year until the end of GDR television. It was moderated by various people such as the spokeswoman for the " Current Camera " Angelika Unterlauf or the mannequin Barbara Herrmann (mother of MDR presenter Victoria Herrmann ) and Klaus Ehrlich. They presented the sample collections of the GDR's nationally owned textile industry.

In almost 20 years of "fashion" on GDR television, producer Klaus Ehrlich used numerous GDR sights as a catwalk for his models. Among the mannequins of the GDR fashion institute were many faces that later became known in film and television, including the Sat.1 presenter Bettina Cramer and the actresses Maren Schumacher and Karin Boyd .
