history

The school was built in 1969 as the 30th Friedrichshain secondary school on a former allotment garden. In 1971 it was given the name Franz-Stenzer-Oberschule, named after the communist Franz Stenzer, who was murdered in 1933 in the Dachau concentration camp . Since 1993 it has been called the Modersohn Elementary School after the painter Otto Modersohn .

building

The type school building from 1969 was energetically renovated in 2001. In order to be able to expand the school into a three-class elementary school, an existing building was raised for the first time in the district in view of the lack of space on the property. The construction of the new floor, its interior fittings and technical building equipment as well as the redesign of the southern schoolyard area were co-financed from the Urban Redevelopment East program . On January 23, 2012, the fourth floor was handed over to the school. At the end of the work, the school cafeteria was enlarged in 2015 to accommodate the increased number of students. The total cost of the renovation was two million euros.

There is a sports hall with a 50 m running track on the school grounds.
