Federal Song Festival 1848

The 3rd Federal Singers' Festival took place on August 13th and 14th, 1848 in Bern . After the Sonderbund War , it was the first song festival in the newly founded federal state that made Bern the seat of the federal authorities. A total of 1400 singers took part in 80 clubs.

The festival was organized by the Berner Liedertafel (dissolved in April 2018). The singing performances were carried out in the Bern Minster .

Colonel Karl Friedrich Gerwer acted as party president . The president of the jury was the Basel professor Friedrich Miescher , the festival director of the overall performance was the Bern church music director Johann Jakob Mendel .
