Mohamed Soltan ( Arabic محمد سلطان; * 1988 ) is an Egyptian - American political activist.

He is the son of the Egyptian-American Salah Sultan , a member of the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR).

Life

Mohamed Soltan studied economics at Ohio State University .

He was one of the press spokesmen for the protest camp in the Cairo district of Rabaa al-Adawiya against the removal of the first democratically elected President Mohammed Morsi . He was arrested with three other youths on August 27, 2013 after the camp was brutally evacuated on August 14 (at least 638 dead), and was wounded during an interview.

He went on a 400-day hunger strike on January 26 to protest his arrest (sentence: life imprisonment) and was flown to the United States on May 31, 2015 due to international protests and efforts by the US government.
