Life

Araki, who lived in Qom and taught until his death, was a silent opponent of Khomeini's principle of governorship of the legal scholars . After his death, Ali Chamenei tried to take over the vacant post of Grand Ayatollah. The clergy in Qom were opposed to this application until finally Khamenei renounced it with the words "The title is not important to me."
