Mohammad Omar (* in Baharak ; † October 8, 2010 in Taloqan , Tachar ) was an Afghan politician. He was governor of Kunduz Province from 2004 until his death .
In April 2009, the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier tried to get Mohammad Omar to be dismissed as governor of Kunduz by intervening with the Afghan Interior Minister Hanif Atmar , but this failed.
He was killed on October 8, 2010 in a bomb attack on a mosque in the city of Taloqan in the neighboring province of Tachar . In addition to the governor, twenty people died in the attack, including the imam of the mosque. He was succeeded by Mohammad Jegdalek .
