Mohammed Ali Akid ( Arabic محمد علي عقيد, DMG Muḥammad ʿAlī ʿAqīd ; * July 5, 1949 in Sfax ; † April 11, 1979 in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia ) was a Tunisian football player .

Career

The center forward was under contract during his career at Club CS Sfax , with whom he won several Tunisian championships. For the Tunisian national team he scored 14 goals. He also took part in the Football World Cup in Argentina in 1978 , where he and his team were eliminated in the preliminary round.

After his untimely death, a street in Tunis was named in his honor. The circumstances surrounding his death are controversial. After it was officially announced in 1979 that Akid died from a lightning strike during a training session, two cartridges were found during the autopsy of his body in 2012 .
