Mohammed Reza Bahonar

Mohammed-Reza Bahonar ( Persian محمدرضا باهنر, born 1331 h.š., d. i. 1952/1953 according to the Gregorian calendar in Kerman ) is Vice-President of the Iranian Parliament .

Bahonar was a member of parliament during the second to fifth Majles, and it has been since the seventh Majles. His brother, Mohammad Jawad Bahonar , was Prime Minister of Iran for a short time.

Bahonar gained international fame when, after Salman Rushdie was honored by the British Queen Elizabeth II - Rushdie had received the accolade - he declared that the Ayatollah Khomeini fatwa had turned Rushdie into a despicable corpse. The British Queen's machinations do not change that. The British monarchy lived in a dream world and believed that Britain was still a superpower as it was in the 19th century, and that such an award had some meaning.
