Le Moinetre (also Muneïtra , Arabic قلعة المنيطرة, DMG Qalʿat al-Munaiṭira  , the small observation tower ') was a crusader castle in what is now Lebanon .

location

The castle was located on a hill near the present day Munaitra , about 22 km east of the Gibelet castle .

history

The small castle was given to the Crusaders in 1109 by Tugtakin , the Atabeg of Damascus , as was Gibelacar Castle . From then on, it formed the center of the Moinetre rule in the County of Tripoli . Around 1165/1166 the castle was taken in a surprise attack by Nur ad-Din and the garrison was massacred. Around 1176 Count Raimund III conquered . from Tripoli the castle and region back again.

Today almost no remains of the castle have survived.
