Mokotau is a small island in the north of Tongatapu in the Pacific . Politically, it belongs to the Kingdom of Tonga .

The Motu is on the north side of the Piha Passage (Astrolabe Channel) off the north coast of Tongatapu, across from Navutoka . The closest islands are Monuafe and ʻOnevai .
climate
The climate is tropical hot, but is tempered by constantly blowing winds. Like the other islands of the Tongatapu group, Mokotau is occasionally hit by cyclones .
