Molecularity

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The molecularity of a chemical reaction , or more precisely an elementary reaction , describes the number of molecules that are involved in the rate-determining step:

  • unimolecular, when a molecule is involved,
  • bimolecular, when two molecules are involved;
  • Reactions or mechanisms with a higher molecularity are rare.
