The Mom Peak is a 3,260 m high mountain in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . In the Grosvenor Mountains , it rises 8 km southeast of Mount Petlock in the eastern Otway massif .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963. It is named after the native Australian Sirley Anderson (1922–1992) from San Diego , who is known as "Antarctic Mom" (English for " Antarctic Mother ”), because her letters to thousands of American scientists working at Antarctic stations from 1961 onwards had kept their morale up in the Antarctic winter months.
