Mondli Cele
Mondli Cele (born March 19, 1989 in Durban , † January 16, 2016 in Pietermaritzburg ) was a South African football player .
Athletic career
Cele initially played in the lower league area. In 2012 he moved to the second division team Gamalakhe United . There he was noticed by Maritzburg United's assistant coach during a television broadcast of a Nedbank Cup match in 2014 , which he then joined in the summer of that year. After almost six months in the Premier Soccer League , the midfielder received his first appointment from national coach Ephraim Mashaba to the South African national team and, as a surprise, was part of the 34-player provisional squad of the selection team for the 2015 African Cup of Nations . Ultimately, however, he was not one of the 23 selected players to travel to Equatorial Guinea.
On January 16, 2016, he was involved in a traffic accident following a game against the Orlando Pirates in which he had scored one goal and succumbed to his injuries. In response, Fikile Mbalula , the country's sports minister, said the incident should serve as a reminder in the fight against the frequent bloodshed on the roads.
