The Mondseeland Farm Museum and the Mondseer Rauchhaus open-air museum form two related museums in Mondsee in Upper Austria . Agricultural work, equipment and buildings are shown.

The Mondseeland Farming Museum was built in 2007/2008 as an interpretation of a modern agricultural outbuilding and serves as an informative entrance to the Mondseer Rauchhaus open-air museum with its buildings and the outdoor area. The permanent exhibition on the ground floor shows the agricultural work in Mondseeland over the course of the four seasons using original equipment as well as texts, film material and listening stations.

The subject areas such as arable farming , grassland management , forest work are divided into:

  • Prehistory over 6000 years of agriculture in Mondseeland
  • pre-industrial period, which due to the world wars and the economic crises extends into the 1950s
  • the subsequent rapid structural change up to the present.

The open-air museum Mondseer Rauchhaus shows the homestead form of the Rauchhaus , which was once widespread in Mondseeland, with the associated outbuildings. The Mittertennhof, built in wood block construction, combines the residential house, stable and barn under one roof and is furnished with the associated household items and equipment. The special feature of this house shape is the lack of a chimney. The smoke flows freely through the roof and dries the grain stored on the upper floor. It is about the Lower Bischofer in Innerschwand , first mentioned in a document in 1416. It had to be dismantled in 1958 when the West Autobahn was being built, and at the time it was one of the last intact smoke houses in Mondseeland - in 1917 there were still 200 smoke houses in Mondseeland.

The outdoor area includes:

With the Fellnerhaus , as an example of a converted and thus modernized smoke house, another exhibit is to be added.

The farmer's museum is operated by the newly founded farmer's museum association . The open-air museum Mondseer Rauchhaus is operated by the Heimatbund Mondsee association founded in 1949 and is the oldest open-air museum in Upper Austria.
