Golo Berg (* 1968 in Weimar ) is a German conductor .

Life

Berg studied with Gunter Kahlert at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar from 1985 to 1991 . He attended master classes from Lorin Maazel , Luciano Berio , Michael Gielen , Lothar Zagrosek , Rudolf Barschai , Dmitri Kitajenko and Frans Brüggen . In 1990 he was a finalist in the "Arturo Toscanini" conducting competition in Parma. At the age of 21, Berg was hired as one of the world's youngest chief conductors at the State Theater Mecklenburg . From 1998 to 2001 he was chief conductor of the Hof Symphony Orchestra and general music director at the Städtebundtheater Hof, 2001 to 2009 General Music Director at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau and from 2012 to 2017 General Music Director of the Theater Vorpommern . In the 2017/2018 season he also moved to the Münster Theater as General Music Director .

Berg has conducted numerous German orchestras including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra , the MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig, the NDR Radio Philharmonic Hanover and the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra .

Guest conductors have taken Berg to other European countries in Great Britain, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal and Poland as well as to China to the Shanghay Symphony Orchestra and Japan (Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra)

Berg has made guest appearances as opera conductor at the opera houses in Leipzig, Cologne, Mannheim and at the St. Gallen Theater . In almost 100 music theater productions he worked with over 30 directors such as Sebastian Baumgarten , Jonathan Eaton, Johannes Felsenstein , Nicholas Muni, Anthony Pilavachi and Michael Sturm . Berg made numerous radio recordings with the Anhalt Philharmonic and produced a number of CDs for cpo . In 2008 Arthaus Filmvertrieb released a DVD directed by him with Richard Wagner's Tristan und Isolde , directed by Johannes Felsensteins. On behalf of the German Music Council, for which he also served as a juror, Berg regularly leads master classes for young conductors. Since 2004 he has been a founding member of the board of the Saxony-Anhalt Art Foundation.
