The palace La Moneda ( Spanish Palacio de La Moneda ) was the former mint of Chile and is now the Chilean presidential palace. It is in Santiago de Chile . It was built between 1786 and 1812. It became known as the scene of the bloody military coup of September 11, 1973 against Salvador Allende by the general and later dictator Augusto Pinochet .

Structurally it was renovated on the outside after the damage from the bombing after 1973 and changed on the inside. The La Moneda cultural center is located in the basement of the palace .
