Monika Zipplies

Monika Zipplies (born March 22, 1956 in Stuttgart ) is a former German rower who finished fifth in the 1976 Olympics with eighth .

The rower from the Stuttgart-Cannstatter rowing club from 1910 belonged together with her club colleague Erika Endriss to the eighth place from the Federal Republic of Germany, who took part in the 1974 World Championships in Lucerne . At this world championship premiere in women's rowing, the eighth finished fourth. The following year, the eight reached sixth place at the 1975 World Championships in Nottingham . In 1976 competitions in women's rowing were held at the Olympic Games for the first time. At the Olympic regatta in Montreal , the eighth qualified for the finals after finishing fourth in the run-up and third in the hope run. There the eighth finished fifth, almost eight seconds behind the victorious boat from the GDR and over two seconds behind the third-placed eighth from the United States. At the 1977 World Championships in Amsterdam , Zipplies and Endriss competed in twos without a helmsman and finished in tenth place.

German championships in eighth were not held in the 1970s. At the International German Championships, the women's eight won with Zipplies and Endriss in both 1975 and 1976.
