Monique Currie (born February 25, 1983 in Washington, DC , United States ) is a professional basketball player. In 2016 she played for the San Antonio Stars in the Women's National Basketball Association .

Career

college

Monique Currie played for the Duke Blue Devils , the women's basketball team at Duke University , until 2006 .

WNBA

Monique Currie was selected third in the 2006 WNBA Draft by the Charlotte Sting . In the 2006 season she was almost always in the Sting's starting line-up. Currie finished her first WNBA season an average of 10 points in 25 minutes per game. After the Sting broke up after that season, Currie was selected first in the Dispersal Draft by the Chicago Sky . After Currie completed two games for the Sky in the season, she was transferred to the Washington Mystics for Chasty Melvin . She then played for the Washington team for eight seasons. Currie was a support of the team and was regularly in the starting line-up of the Mystics, but the team was not successful. The Mystics reached the playoffs only four times in the eight seasons and then failed in the first round. In the 2015 season she played for the Phoenix Mercury team . There she was in all 34 games of the season in the starting line-up and reached the playoffs with the team, which ended with a defeat in the second round against the eventual WNBA champions of the Minnesota Lynx . In 2016 she was active for the San Antonio Stars team . Here, too, she was in the starting line-up in all 34 games of the season, but clearly missed the playoffs with the team.

Europe

During the season break in the WNBA, Douglas played regularly for clubs in Europe. Most recently she played for the Spanish team Perfumerias Avenida in 2013 .

National team

At the beginning of her career, she won the title at the 2001 World Junior Championship with the US team.
