The Monk Islands (translated from English monk islands ) are a group of very small islands and clip rocks in the archipelago of South Orkneys . They are 2.5 km south of Meier Point off the south coast of Coronation Island .
The Norwegian whaling captain Petter Sørlle mapped them during his visit to the South Orkney Islands from 1912 to 1913 and named them Munken (Norwegian for The Monk ). The anglicized form, on the other hand, is established, as can be found on map material that was created in the course of measurements by scientists of the Discovery Investigations in 1933.
