Mononobe no Me

Mononobe no Me ( Japanese 物部目 ) was a high-ranking courtier of Tennō Yūryaku from the powerful Mononobe clan , who was responsible for military and police duties at the Yamato Court.

His father was Ikofutsu ( 物部伊莒弗 ), his son Arayama ( 物部荒山 ) and his grandson Okoshi ( 物部尾輿 ).

After the Nihongi he was appointed Ōmuraji on the occasion of the accession of Emperor Yūryaku to the throne in 456 . The emperor once had an affair with his palace servant ( uneme ) Ominagimi, and when Me noticed the resemblance of her daughter to Yūryaku, he exhorted the emperor to make her a concubine and her daughter to be imperial princess Kasuga no Ōiratsume. Ōiratsume later became the wife of Emperor Ninken .

469 Me was entrusted with the case of Hatane no mikoto ( 歯田根命 ), who had an affair with the imperial servant Yamanobe no Koshimako ( 山辺小嶋子 ). When Hatane boasted of his deed after paying the fine, Yūryaku finally withdrew the village of Nagano near Eka-no-ichi in Kawachi Province from him and transferred it to Me.

In 474 he was sent together with Mononobe no Ushiro no Sukune ( 物部菟代宿禰 ) to subdue Asake no Iratsuko ( 朝日郎 ), who made the province of Ise unsafe. When for days nobody dared to attack him with the bow because of his skill, Me took his sword in hand, gave Mononobe no Ōonote ( 物部大斧手 ) a shield as cover and with his help killed Iratsuko. Due to the cowardice of Ushiro, his land Inabe ( 猪名部 ) in Ise was withdrawn and given to Me.
