Monoprix SA [ mɔnɔpʁi ] is a large French department store chain with headquarters in Clichy . It was founded in 1893 by Théophile Bader and Max Heilbronn.

history

The founders were the businessman Théophile Bader and his son-in-law Max Heilbronn, who owned the Parisian department store Galeries Lafayette . Since its foundation in 1893, the department store has risen to become one of the leading houses in Paris and has expanded structurally. After the Parisian department store competitor Printemps started the “Prisunic” department store chain on December 1, 1931, Bader and Heilbronn opened the first Monoprix store in Rouen on October 29, 1932 . They called it Monoprix ( French uniform price ) because they planned to offer uniform prices for their range of goods in the later chain of stores . In 1938 the chain grew to 38 stores, in 1940 it already consisted of 44 stores.

In 1947 Monoprix added own brands to its range, in 1950 a book service was added, in 1990 “Monoprix Vert” ( French Monoprix Green ) came onto the market, and in 1994 organic products followed . In 1997 Monoprix bought the 132 store chain of its main competitor “Prisunic”, which it closed in March 2003. By buying “Prisunic”, the French Groupe Casino acquired 21.6% of the Monoprix shares, which it increased to 50% in June 2012. In 2000 the group started the high-priced chain monop ' , followed by monop'beauty (cosmetics; 2005) and monop'daily (fast food ; 2007). In 2018 the company took over the online mail order company Sarenza .
