The Monrepos-Schanze (also Horst-Stragnad-Schanze ) was a ski jumping hill in the Neuwied district of Segendorf in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

In 1952 the first small ski jump was built and in 1955 it was converted into a ski jumping hill. The design for the ski jump in Monrepos came from Heini Klopfer , who was also the designer of the Oberstdorf ski flying hill . It was further expanded in the following years. It developed into an important ski jumping facility in Rhineland-Palatinate. Ski jumping events, state championships and competitions with up to 1,000 spectators took place in the 50s and 60s and later. Later a judges tower, from which the ski hut later emerged, was built. In 1963 the slope was equipped with a floodlight system. After further modifications the hill was rebuilt again in 1986 and was named after the hill record holder "Horst-Stragand-Schanze". The wooden structure was exposed to the weather and fell into disrepair. The stability of the ski jump tower was no longer guaranteed in the 2010s. In 2015, the old diving platform was demolished and a completely new tower was built. In 2019, however, the diving tower was demolished in addition to the ski hut.

Referee tower and ski hut

A judges tower was also built in the 1960s . It was erected in the form of a simple two-story building. The Monrepos ski hut later emerged from it. It was also named Fürst-Friedrich-Wilhelm-Hütte after Friedrich Wilhelm zu Wied , one of the sponsors, and until the end it served as a destination for hikers and bikers, together with the ski jump. The ski hut was located off the diving tower, seen behind the takeoff . In 1964 the ski hut was expanded to include a toilet and terrace.
