Mont Avron
The Mont Avron (also: Plateau d'Avron ) is a 110 m high hill that is located in the Seine-Saint-Denis department in the Île-de-France region .
geography
The survey in the eastern environs of Paris belongs to the municipalities of Rosny-sous-Bois , Villemomble and Neuilly-Plaisance . Due to an important gypsum deposit, there were several quarries here , but they are no longer in operation today.
history
In 1870, during the Franco-Prussian War, Mont Avron was fortified by the French as an important point dominating the Marne crossings . However, it was occupied by the 12th German Corps on December 29th after two days of bombardment .
Attractions
- The undeveloped area is registered as a Natura 2000 protection zone under code FR1112013.
- The 60 meter high water tower can be seen from afar and serves as the landmark of Mont Avron.
- Notre Dame de l'Assomption Church , built in 1932, impresses with its idiosyncratic architectural style.
