The Montagne d'Alaric is a small mountain range in the south of France in the Aude department and part of the Corbières .

course

The mountain range extends east of Carcassonne for about 20 kilometers and culminates in the Signal d'Alaric (600 meters). Viticulture is practiced on the slopes ( Vignoble de la Montagne d'Alaric ), for example in Comigne , Douzens , Floure , Fontcouverte , Barbaira , Moux and Capendu . In the north, the A 61 motorway runs past the mountains, in the south of the eight-kilometer-wide mountain range, which runs in an east-west direction, the D3 (to Montlaur ), the D114 to Camplong and then the D212 run as a bypass road.

Surname

The name of the mountain reminds us that the Visigoths ruled this area from the year 412. Athaulf , brother-in-law of King Alaric I and his successor, had an important fortress built here, from which the Miramont Castle above Barbaira emerged in the 11th century. A legend tells that the tomb of King Alaric II is located in a cave that was built in the mountains.
