Montana Resources was a US copper and molybdenum mining company. Montana Resources is a subsidiary of the conglomerate The Washington Companies .

The company operates an open pit copper and molybdenum mine in Butte , Montana . Montana Resources resumed operations in 1986 at the Continental mine, which until its closure in 1983 was owned by the Anaconda Copper Mining Company , formerly one of the largest mining companies in the world. From the resumption of mining in 1986 to 2020, Montana Resources extracted over 900,000 tons of copper and over 120,000 tons of molybdenum from the Continental mine. Montana Resources is a co-owner of the neighboring former open copper mine, Berkeley PitThe company is involved in the recovery, monitoring and management of which. Over a period of several years, the company extracted dissolved copper directly from the sulfuric acid water of the Berkeley Pit.
