Montdory
Montdory , also Mondory , actually Guillaume Des Gilberts (born March 13, 1594 in Thiers , France , † November 10, 1653 ibid) was a French actor and theater director. In 1629 he settled with his troupe in Paris and founded the Théâtre du Marais there .
Life
Montdory staged the first plays of the great French playwright Pierre Corneille (1606-1684) from Mélite (1629) to Le Cid (1636), in which he often played the leading role. So he embodied Rodrigue in the first performance of the Cid .
From 1637 he suffered from paralysis that prevented him from playing, which caused the relative decline of his theater compared to the rival "Troupe de l ' Hôtel de Bourgogne ".
