William Hepburn Russell
William Hepburn Russell (born January 31, 1812 in Burlington , Vermont , † September 10, 1872 in Palmyra , Missouri ) was an American businessman.
He became known as one of the founders of the legendary Pony Express , a mounted Schnellpost line that St. Louis ( Missouri ) with Sacramento ( California Association). Although the Pony Express only operated from April 1860 to October 1861 and was a financial disaster, it became a myth of the Wild West .
