The Monte San Petrone is a 1767 meter high mountain in the north of Corsica and the highest mountain in the Castagniccia . The mountain is located in a north-south ridge. The western flank is gently sloping and covered with forests. The eastern flank is steep and rocky. The mountain is a popular hiking destination because of its beautiful view of Corsica's east coast, Cap Corse and the Monte Cinto massif . At the top there is a wrought iron cross with a walled sculpture of San Petru .
