The Stol (Italian: Monte Stol ) is a mountain in Slovenia . It reaches a height of 1673  m and belongs to the massif of the Julian Alps . The mountain is the highest peak of a roughly 25 km long ridge that rises from the Soča Valley in the east and extends to the Torre in Italy in the west . To the north, the Stol drops steeply into the Ucja valley. In the south lies the valley of the Nadiža . The Stol was one of the venues of the twelfth Isonzo battle in the First World War . Today the Stol is very popular with paragliders as a starting point. The main landing site is near Kobarid. Two gravel tracks lead to the summit of Stol, one from Sedlo in the south, the other from Žaga in the north.
