The Montravel Rock ( French Roche Montravel ) is a cliff rock off the northwest coast of the Trinity Peninsula in the north of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 18 km north of Cape Legoupil .
Participants of the Third French Antarctic Expedition (1837-1840) under the direction of polar explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville discovered him in February 1838. D'Urville named him after Louis Tardy de Montravel (1811-1864), officer on board his ship Zélée . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the French name into English in 1952.
