Montufar Island ( Spanish Islote Montufar ) is a small, triangular-shaped island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located 0.3 km east of Dee Island in the English Strait between Greenwich Island and Robert Island .
Ecuadorian scientists named it in 1990 after a participant of the second Ecuadorian Antarctic expedition, who was involved in an accident during the construction of the Maldonado station on Greenwich Island. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee translated this designation into English in 2005.
