Monument over Englandsfarten is a monument in the Norwegian city ​​of Ålesund .

The memorial commemorates the Norwegian travelers to England who fled between 1940 and 1945 from Germany- occupied Norway with ships heading for Great Britain, particularly to Scotland , the Orkney or Shetland Islands . 320 people were killed, 3300 managed to escape. The monument is located in a small park on the east side of Ålesund harbor at Skateflukaia . It was created by Olav Stavseng . The decision to set it up was made in 1993, the work was carried out from May 1994 to May 1995. The unveiling took place on May 8, 1995, the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II , by Crown Prince Haakon .

Financing was provided by private individuals, companies and institutions at home and abroad, state authorities, municipalities in western Norway, Møre og Romsdal and Ålesund.

The monument shows as a sculpture the bow of a boat driving through waves, on which a young man is standing. The sculpture is on a high stone column. The column bears the lettering on the lake side
