Moorland (Großefehn)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Moorlage has belonged to the Aurich-Oldendorf district of the municipality of Großefehn in the Aurich district in East Frisia since the municipal reform of July 1, 1972 . The row settlement is about two kilometers east of Aurich-Oldendorf on a strip of Geest . The name of the village means free area on the moor . The suburbs, colonies and living spaces of Tunge, Reit, Bülte, Zwischenmooren, Vosskuhlen and Altmoorlage Bülte also belong to the moorland.

history

Settlement of moorland began in 1798 on an area that the Aurich-Oldendorfer stove owners previously used as a community pasture . The colony grew rapidly and in 1848 had 276 inhabitants, spread over 50 residential buildings. In the 19th century, Moorlage formed its own school community with more than 400 people to maintain its own secondary school. In the middle of the 19th century, a great wave of emigration to the USA began. Many local residents sold their property during this period and emigrated overseas. This led to a noticeable decline in the population. The village has also had its own cemetery since 1852. In 1880 there was an attempt to outsource moorland from Aurich-Oldendorf and to form an independent community. However, this failed. The village, in which around 600 inhabitants lived in 1955, is still part of the former mother colony.
