The bog lemmings or lemming mice ( Synaptomys ) are a genus of mammals from the voles family . They are assigned to the Lemmini tribe . These are two species that live in the north-east of the USA and in eastern Canada in wet meadows and bog areas and create colonies of around 30 individual animals. The distribution area of ​​the northern moor lemming, which occurs in the entire north of North America, is very patchy. This has led to the formation of several subspecies.

Moor lemmings are about 8 to 13 centimeters long and have a tail two centimeters long. The females give birth to one to four young animals two to three times a year.
