The bog lemmings or lemming mice ( Synaptomys ) are a genus of mammals from the voles family . They are assigned to the Lemmini tribe . These are two species that live in the north-east of the USA and in eastern Canada in wet meadows and bog areas and create colonies of around 30 individual animals. The distribution area of the northern moor lemming, which occurs in the entire north of North America, is very patchy. This has led to the formation of several subspecies.
Moor lemmings are about 8 to 13 centimeters long and have a tail two centimeters long. The females give birth to one to four young animals two to three times a year.
