Neolithic wooden bucket from Schorrenried

The Moorsiedlung Reute-Schorrenried is a wetland settlement from the 38th century BC. In the Bad Waldsee district of Reute . The settlement shows elements of the Pfyn culture , which is particularly widespread in Eastern Switzerland, but also from the Altheimer group from Bavaria. It is therefore assigned to the Pfyn-Altheimer group , of which there are several sites from this time in Upper Swabia. Dendrochronological studies on the oak trunks used showed that the wooden buildings were erected in 3738 BC. BC to 3731 BC Afterwards the settlement was inhabited for several decades until the water level of the lake rose.

The site was discovered in 1934 and examined from 1980 to 1986 by the Institute for Pre- and Protohistory at the University of Freiburg . During these excavations, the remains of a total of 31 Neolithic wooden buildings in five rows of houses came to light. These were partly built at ground level on the peat floor, partly on stakes in the bank area of a lake. This lake, created as a relic of an Ice Age glacier, has silted up today. The site is a reed area , where numerous testimonies, such as everyday objects and tools of life at that time, were found near the surface.

The approximately 7,000 found objects represent the entire range of everyday objects that can be expected in a settlement. In addition to knives and other tools, remains of grain, fishing nets and complete ceramic sets were recovered. The special finds include a saddle mill and a Y-shaped branch, which is interpreted as a loop of branches .

Particularly noteworthy is the discovery of the so far oldest known copper dagger in central Central Europe, which heralds the transition to the metal age and points to already extensive trade relations.
