Morón is a city in northern Venezuela .

The city is located in the state of Carabobo near the Caribbean coast and is the capital of the district ( Municipio ) Juan José Mora .

According to the last census (2001), the population of Morón is 48,000.

The city was registered in the church records as early as the seventeenth century. Many slaves from other regions of Venezuela found refuge in this area during colonial times. That is why the population today is particularly characterized by Afro-Americans.

The region expanded in the 1950s when the El Palito oil refining complex was established nearby. An important road connecting Puerto Cabello to Coro runs nearby.
