Morike "Mo" Sako (born November 17, 1981 in Paris ) is a former French football player . The 2.02 meter tall striker with Malian ancestors is both a ball distributor and a striker, works a lot backwards and is technically shod despite his height. His brother Bakary Sako is also a professional footballer.

Career

Morike Sako received his football training at Union Sportive d'Ivry , a club from Ivry-sur-Seine , right on the southeastern city limits of Paris. In 2004 he moved to the Swiss second division club SR Delémont for one season before he, like many of his compatriots, moved to England , where he played for Torquay United in Football League Two in the 2005/06 season . Used in the pre-season as a central defender, he moved to the center-forward position in the early stages of the season before playing in the central midfield for most of the season. Endurance and discipline problems ensured that he was only on the grid in ten of his 25 league appearances. With three goals of the season Sako had contributed to the fact that the strongly relegated club could keep the class at the end of the season; the newly signed for the 2006/07 season coach Ian Atkins , however, waived a further engagement Sakos.

League competitor AFC Rochdale took action and signed the Parisian, who came in the following months as part of a three-man storm mostly at the side of Keith Barker and Chris Dagnall to 17 matches (3 goals). In December 2006, Sako learned that Rochdale would not extend his short-term contract beyond the end of the year. He then completed a trial session at League One club AFC Bournemouth , but instead switched to German regional division FC St. Pauli in January 2007 .

Sako was regularly used at the Millerntor in the successful second half of the season and quickly became a fan favorite there too. At the end of April 2007 he scored his first two competitive goals for the "Kiezkicker", in summer 2007 he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with FC and signed a two-year contract. He played his first game in German professional football at the end of September 2007 after a long injury break against Borussia Mönchengladbach and scored his first goal at this level three days later.

It then took until the beginning of December 2008 before “Mo” scored another goal - the 2: 2 in the game against TuS Koblenz (final score 3: 2). In the summer of 2010, Bundesliga promoted FC St. Pauli no longer extended his contract and Sako left the club after eight goals in 71 missions. From August he trained with the financially troubled second division Arminia Bielefeld , with whom he finally signed a one-year contract in early September. After the relegation of Arminia from the second Bundesliga after the 2010/11 season, he received no new contract. After two years without a club, the striker received a one-year contract with KSV Hessen Kassel on September 19, 2013 , which was not renewed in summer 2014. After another six months without a club, Sako signed on January 27, 2015 with the ambitious northern regional league club Eintracht Norderstedt until the end of the season.
