Morning runner
Morning Runner was a British rock band formed in Reading , Berkshire in 2003 , when all the band members were still playing in other bands.
history
The band consisted of singer and guitarist Mathew Greener, bassist Tom Derrett, drummer Ali Clewer and pianist Chris Wheatcroft. The band played many concerts in the English provinces and achieved a relatively quick regional popularity. In terms of style, Morning Runners are / were a mixture of different influences of Britpop of the last few years - from Oasis to Blur and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to The Verve .
In 2003 the band received a recording contract from the Manchester indie label "Faith & Hope Records" and in 2004 they released their first EP. A year later, the band was signed by Parlophone .
In 2005 the Drawing Shapes EP was released , followed by the first single Gone Up In Flames in the summer of the same year , which certainly attracted attention in the UK. As a result, Morning Runners were permanently on tour, including with Bloc Party , Ian Brown and Coldplay . Chris Martin , the front man of Coldplay, was particularly enthusiastic about the young quartet.
This was followed by the singles Be all you want me to be (autumn 2005) and Burning Benches (February 2006), the latter even cracking the top 20 in England. Morning runners had time to record a debut album after a break from touring .
The debut album Wilderness is Paradise Now was released in March 2006 and received good reviews. After that, Morning Runners went on their first small headlining tour through England before continuing to play some concerts as the opening act for Embrace . They came to Germany for the first time as part of the Haldern Pop Tour.
The completion of the second studio album was planned for 2007, but in August 2007 the band broke up.
