The Morrell Reef ( Norwegian Morrellrevet ) is a rocky reef near the southeast coast of Bouvet Island in the South Atlantic . It is located 600 m east of Cape Fie .
The first mapping was made in 1898 by participants in the Valdivia expedition (1898–1899) under the direction of the German zoologist Carl Chun . Another mapping was carried out in December 1927 during the Norvegia research voyage under Captain Harald Horntvedt (1879-1946). Hornvedt named the reef after the American sealer captain Benjamin Morrell (1795–1839) from Stonington , Connecticut , who had possibly made the first landing on Bouvet Island with his ship Wasp in December 1822.
