Mosque in Langon

The so-called mosque - also known as Tour Mauresque - in Langon , a town in the Gironde department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was built in 1904 as a folly in a horse racing track. The mosque is in the Parc des Vergers , which was created on the site of the former horse racing track .

The starting signal for the horse races is said to have been given from the minaret of the mosque, which was never used as a house of prayer.
