The Moskovian (English Moscovian ) is the second chronostratigraphic stage of the Pennsylvania ( carbon ) in the history of the earth . Expressed in absolute numbers ( geochronologically ), the stage represents the period from about 315.2 million years to about 307 million years. The Moskovium follows the Bashkirium and is replaced by the Kasimovium .

Naming and history

The Moskovium is named after Moscow , the capital of Russia. The stage and name were suggested by Sergei Nikitin in 1890.

Definition and GSSP

The base of the Moskoviums is through the first appearance of Conodonten -type Declinognathodus donetzianus and / or the type Conodonten Idiognathoides postsulcatus and the fusulinids -type Aljutovella aljutovica defined. The upper limit is close to the base of the obsoletes obsoletes - Protriticites pseudomontiparus - Fusulin zone, or the first appearance of the ammonite genus Parashumardites . A reference profile (Global Stratotype Section and Point, GSSP) for the base of the Moskovium has not yet been established.

Breakdown

The Moskovium is divided into five conodont biozones:
