Motherboard monitor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Motherboard Monitor was software that was used to monitor important components on the main board ( motherboard ) of a PC with regard to thermal and electrical parameters and thus, under certain circumstances, enabled the early diagnosis of certain problems in the area of this hardware.

Specifically, components such as B. the CPU determines the present temperatures, voltages and currents . If one of the monitored values left a previously defined range, the motherboard monitor could react by issuing warnings (acoustically and / or visually), starting a previously defined program or shutting down the computer.

In July 2004 the further development of the software was stopped. The author names the lack of support from the motherboard manufacturers and the large number of new graphics card sensors as reasons. Despite the official discontinuation of the development of Motherboard Monitor, there was an update on September 13, 2006, which supports more recent boards better. The current version is now 5.3.7.0 Update 2 .

criticism

The problem with this is that the program must know what type of motherboard it is monitoring. If the type of board to be monitored is not known or if it is not supported by the program, the use of Motherboard Monitor is practically impossible, as very detailed knowledge of the individual components of the motherboard would then have to be available.
